THE CAMP'S ORIGINS
Originally named Bond's Gateway Cabins, River Rocks Camp was a motor hotel in the 1940's during a time when Big Timber, the county seat of Sweet Grass County, was advertised as Montana's Vacation Capital with "good trout fishing at both ends of Main Street!"
A quote from an advertising brochure from that era says "The county is traversed from west to east by the beautiful Yellowstone river. This stream has many tributaries which have their sources in the towering mountains in the northern and southern parts of the county."
One of the tributaries is the Boulder River which still has some of the best trout fishing in the state and which flows right past River Rocks Camp Cabins.
River Rocks Camp Cabins have had a face lift and lots of tender loving care in the 70 years since they were Bond's Gateway Cabins, but they still hold some of the history and charm of that era. And the surrounding rivers and mountains are just as beautiful now as then.
