Local Attractions

Whether you are headed north, south, east or west or hanging around our area for an extra day or two, these scenic day trips will show you some of the beautiful back country and winding roads that keep people coming back year after year.  There is a memorable drive no matter which direction you head out of town.

Crazy Mountains

The beautiful Crazy Mountains stand guard over the town of Big Timber.  Their beauty is unmatched and highly visible to the north from any road into town and right at the end of McLeod (also called Main) Street.

Boulder Road/ Natural Bridge

Go down McLeod Street through town and out on the Boulder Road to the south. This road winds up through the Boulder River valley past ranches and vacation cabins past the Road Kill Cafe and  the once-resort town of McLeod to the Gallatin National Forest. If you can take a little gravel go a few miles further to Natural Bridge and walk across the bridge and down the interpretive trail. You won't be sorry.

The Charles M. Bair Family Museum

The Bair Family Art Museum, built in 2011, sits adjacent to the late 19th century Charles M. Bair family home along the Upper Mussellshell River. The Bair site is just north of the majestic Crazy Mountains and west of the Castle Mountains. The museum features five state-of-the-art, climate controlled galleries that present the Bair family’s Native American collection, western paintings by Charles Russell and Joseph Henry Sharp, Edward S. Curtis photogravures, and a diverse collection of modern European and American paintings
